My recent vacation took me to Mendocino, California, a lovely village on the Pacific coast. Mendocino’s history began in 1850 with a shipwreck of Frolic in a nearby cove at Point Cabrillo. Mendocino was founded in 1852 as a logging community.

Victorian scraps (also known as chromos, oblaten and glanzbilder) appeared in the early 19th century and became all the rage in the 1880s. Today, scrapbooking is again a thriving hobby, and reproductions of antique scraps are sold in the stores.

The Porte de Vanves flea market (Marchė des Puces in French), located on the southwestern edge of Paris, is a treasure trove of vintage jewelry, antique books, postcards and prints, crisp linens, lace and fabrics.
